The Art Institute of Chicago needs you!

 

The Art Institute of Chicago is opening a new exhibition about the creative journeys of artists! They want highlight hardships and challenges that artists overcame to be successful.

They received artwork by the following artists: Claude Monet, Chuck Close, and Van Gogh. The art director at the museum is looking for more information about their life stories! Who where they? what hardships did they have to overcome? How were they successful?

You will have the special privilege in helping The Art Institute research one of these special artists!

 

Standards:

Here are the standards we will be working with today:

Task

The Art Institute of Chicago chose your class to help research how select artists overcame adversity despite their circumstances! They selected the following artists for you to research:

   Chuck Close                        Claude Monet                      Vincent Van Gogh

  1. The first thing you need to do is choose which of the three artists you would like to research above! 

  2. Next, you need to learn about your artist's biography and their life challenges they endured. 

  3. Finally you need to write a 2 paragraph summary of your research you have gathered on your artist. In the Summary you must discuss two things:

  • What challenges did the artist face in his life time?

  • How did the artist adapt to these challenges?

  • Did the artist become famous during or after their lifetime?

Research Process:

  1. Look up all three artists

  2. Choose an artist that interests you 

  3. Use the the online resources below to research your artist. 

  4. Find one additional resource online to use for your research

  5. Take notes of the artist's hardships and successes during and after their lifetime. 

  6. Create a two paragraph summary on Google Docs that includes the following information:

  • What challenges did the artist face in his life time?

  • How did the artist adapt to these challenges?

  • Did the artist become famous during or after their lifetime?
