Introduction
This WebQuest is designed to take you through the WWII era of Japenese Internment camps. It will give information derived from first-hand experiences from Japanese-American adults (then children), who encountered internment camps and discrimination.
Task
Task 1) First, read over the questions below the link. Then, visit the website link in the "process" tab and answer the questions.
- In the video, Akiko Kurose shares that one of her teachers, after the bombing, made the remark "You people bombed Pearl Harbor." How can this comment be related to current events within our country?
- Why do you believe Akiko is confused when her teacher refers to her as "You people"?
- What is the significance of the title of the video, "Looking Like the Enemy"?
Task 2) Choosing two pictures first, descrribe the images and then write a reflection on how these portray the daily lives and routines within the internment camps. This must be no greater than two pages.
Task 3) Read the letter from Louise Ogawa, a young Japanese-American, to Miss Breed, a children's librarian in San Diego. Then, compare and contrast Louise's life, from inside the internment camp, to your own life. Create a venn diagram containing at least five key points within each category.

Hopefully, this quest has given you a little bit more insight into the lives of the children and adults who have suffered through this experience. As well, we can take our knowledge from this mass discrimination and make a positive impact on discrimination that we encounter today!
