Introduction
Have you ever looked up at the night sky and noticed that the Moon is different from the night before? The Moon changes shape every day. Sometimes you can see only part of the Moon. Other times, you can see the entire Moon. Why does this happen?
The purpose of this WebQuest is to help you learn why we see phases of the Moon.
Task
Your task or assignment for this webquest is to explain why the Moon changes its appearance throughout the month. You will complete four tasks (assignments).
Task #1
Please draw and label the eight phases of the moon on your worksheet.
Task #2
There are a few science terms that you must learn before you understand the phases of the Moon. For Task #2, define the following terms: gibbous, waning, and waxing. You will also identify which phases are waxing and waning.
Task #3
Birthday activity! For Task #3, draw your birthday Moon. What phase was it on the day you were born? Find out and fill in the moon on your worksheet. Next, draw a picture of the phase of the Moon on your birthday in 2017.
Task #4
How does the Moon change during the month? For Task #4, complete the calendar to show how the Moon changes each day. Complete the worksheet by drawing what the moon looks like each day of the month of September in 2017.
