Is Nuclear Power Renewable?

Introduction

Nuclear energy is one of the main sources of conventional energy in many countries today mostly because is a low-carbon energy source.

Burning nuclear fuels such as uranium and plutonium in the nuclear reactors, will generate clean electricity due to the nuclear fission reaction.

However, in order to be considered a renewable resource, nuclear power needs to use a fuel that is never depleted.

Uranium is pretty limited on our planet, and this is the reason why today, another nuclear fuel with good potential (thorium) is proposed to replace uranium.

Thorium is more present on our planet and during the nuclear fission reaction releases a smaller quantity of radioactive waste.
