INTRODUCTION:
You are a poet. Your job is to work cooperatively with your assigned partner or group to complete all of the assigned tasks. With the help of your teammates, each of you will create your own poetry notebook project. It is imperative that you follow all directions carefully and completely in order to successfully accomplish your goal. This is a fun and unique approach to learning about poetry. Take advantage of this opportunity. You may ask questions at any time. Happy searching!
Task
Go to Google Classroom. You will find this assignment posted with a place for you to insert your answers.
-
Task 1
-
define poetry elements terms
-
--Your first task is to use the provided Internet links to define the listed poetry elements terms. Make sure you use language that you understand. You can use some of the same language in your response, but none of the definitions should be copied word for word. Points will be deducted for any copied material.
imagery, stanza, metaphor, onomatopoeia, personification, simile, alliteration, theme, hyperbole, repetition
-
Task 2
-
Define types of poems (terms)
-
Identify an example of three different types
-
Annotate (find poetry elements within) the three examples
-
--Your second task is to use the provided Internet links to research the following types of poetry. Define each type of poetry. (This can be copied, but you need to understand each type.) Then read several examples of each type of poetry and select your favorite example for 3 types. (Copy and paste the examples [of these 3 types], with its author, into your document.) After selecting your favorite 3 examples, identify any/all of the poetic elements present in the poem by annotating using highlighting and letter coloring along with typed comments. Each poem should have at least two elements to be allowed for your use (except for the haiku which may only have one).
acrostic, haiku, cinquain, limerick, diamante, tanka, shape poetry
-
Task 3
-
Write your own example of each of the 7 poem types
-
Annotate your own poems showing 5 or more different poetry elements within your seven poems. Each poem must have at least 1 poetry element.
-
You can help each other, but you cannot share a poem
-
-- You will then create your own poems for each of the above types of poetry. They must be original, but your partners can help you. Each poem must also contain at least one poetic element. At least 5 different poetic elements must be used by the time you finish your original writings. Be sure to identify, by highlighting and noting with a comment, each element that you use.
-
Task 4
-
Make it beautiful and organize it
-
Print it out after approval
-
--You will compose a Poetry Notebook/Portfolio that includes all of the information from tasks 1-3.

Process for Task 4

- Print out a copy of the rubric. After you have studied it, place it in your poetry notebook as the last page. This sheet will be used for grading.
- For BONUS points, you may include one additional poem type from this site to include in your original poetry section. You do not need to include it in any other section. (Not the tanka because you already created one of these.) You do not need to annotate it.
