Introduction
The purpose of this guide is to provide an overview of the basic structural components of living cells. In reviewing this structure we will also discuss their functions.
Task
Your task will be to draw the structures of the cell and label it .
Process
1. Prepare the materials to be needed and wet mounts of human cell.
2. With the broad end of a toothpick, gently scrape the inside of your cheek two or three times to collect some cells from the mucous membrane .
3. Deposit the material accumulated on the toothpick on the glass slide by gentle circular motions starting from the center going outwards.
4. Air dry the material.
5. Place 1 drop of 95% alcohol on the material.
6. Allow the smear to stand for one minute.
7. Carefully blot the slide dry.
8. Cover the smear with a drop of methylene blue stain and let it dry for 1.5 minutes.
9. Wash of the stain by squirting water from a wash bottle until no color is visible.
10. Put a cover slip and examine the slide under the compound microscope .
11. Draw few cells and label all the parts actually seen/visible.
12. Study, draw and label the parts of a typical animal cells as seen under the electron microscope.
