...understand the impact of the Eureka Stockade and Gold Rushes on Australia’s development.

 

Process

All work should be completed in the font : Bookman Old Style. The title should be size 20, in Bold, Underlined and centred.

Group 1. Lily C, Curtis, Tom, Ingrid. Task: Glossary, word wall and crossword

  • Go through the text of 'Eureka Stockade' by Alan Boardman and write a list of all the tricky or unfamiliar words. Show Ms. Charsley the list.
  • As a group write a definition or explanation for each word. You can use an online or hardcopy dictionary to help, but the explanation must be written in your own words. Edit your work and check with Ms. Charsley.
  • Using the templates provided create a glossary and display words for the word wall.
  • If you have time at the end you can create a crossword of all your words using the site: https://www.education.com/worksheet-generator/reading/crossword-puzzle/

Group 2. Britney, Kcaj, Keira. Task- Cause and Effect

  • Using the template provided, create a display to show the main causes and effects of the Eureka Stockade. Edit then check your work with Ms. Charsley
  • Publish your work using the Word template. 
  • You can add pictures from the internet but remember to provide your sources.

Group 3. Joe, Jaxon W, Jacob - Timeline

  • Using the text, and you knowledge of the Stockade, write a draft list of the main events surrounding the Eureka Stockade.
  • Each event needs a Date, Title and a Summary or short description. Edit and Check with Ms Charsley.

  • You can add pictures to you display using this file.

4. Lily D, Shahn, Archie, Logan - Newspaper Report

  • Draft a short article about the events of the Eureka stockade. Your article needs a least 4-5 paragraphs, and follow the structure of a recount, but in third person point-of-view.

  • Paragraph 3 More information.
  • Closing paragraph
  • Create a really catchy title (headline).

5. Meadow, Elora - Primary and secondary resources

  • Research some primary sources of information dating from the Eureka stockade... these may include licences, artwork, diaries, maps, poems (Hint: Timothy Hayes), articles. We will print these items in colour, so you will need to create a label describing each piece. It should include a Title, Date, Name of creator and a short description of the piece. Aim for 4 different pieces.
  • Write a definition and give some examples of primary and secondary sources of historical information. These will be included on our word wall.

 

6. Jett, Jamie, Oliver - Venn Diagram of similarities and differences, Gold then and now 

  • Brainstorm and then research information about gold from the 1850's to now. Some questions to guide you may include: price of gold, what gold is used for, how it is mined, the properties of gold.
  • Use the Venn diagram template to display your learning. Do a draft on the hardcopy template provided, then publish a final copy on Word.

8. Point of View - Letter to the Queen from the Governor – Emily, Maddie, Zac, Jordan

  • You will be writing a letter to Her Majesty Queen Victoria from the Governor.
  • You will need to give a brief summary of the situation, describe the problem and then discuss some possible solutions such as introducing licences, or arresting miners, or allowing the miners to continue. Think about the style of writing and the type of language you will need to use. Draft your ideas on paper, you will publis next week using Word.
