MISS RENE GEOMETRY HUNT

Introduction

Hi everyone and welcome to Miss Rene Geometry Hunt. In this hunt we would be doing the activities associated with Plane Shapes and Solid Shapes associated with standard 3  Geometry. A recap of our previous lesson, plane shapes are flat shapes like squares, circles and triangles whilst solid shapes are three dimensional (3D) objects like cubes, prisms, cylinders and spheres that was done on my Geometry Blog.

Task

Student will work independently to review what was previously learnt in geometry. Student will complete four  task that goes along with it the geometry plane and solid shapes. After the review, students will get together into groups discuss what they have learnt. They each group will have a chance to create any game using what they learnt and present it to the class.

Process

Activity One: The Plane Shapes Hunt

Class I'm going to divide you'll into two groups, Today we are going on a Geometry Hunt for Plane and Solid Shapes. The group that identifies the most plane shapes wins a price. Class I would be asking each group questions.

1. Students would be asked to identify  plane shapes.

2. Students would be asked to look around the classroom to identify examples of plane shapes.

Activity Two: The Solid Shapes Hunt

Class you'll are doing pretty well, we are now going to do the Solid Shapes Hunt. In this hunt I would be asking each group to identify three solid shapes and examples of three solid shapes.

1. Students would be asked to identify solid shapes.

2. Students would be asked to look around the classroom to identify  examples of solid shapes.

Activity Three: The Plane and Solid Shape Hunt

Class it's been a beautiful hunt now its time to combine our shapes to make an object or a picture. Each group would be given cut outs of the solid and plane shapes and a piece of Bristol board with markers.

1. Students will use the shape to create anything using their imagination.

2. Students will describe their creation to the class and identify the shapes used.

Activity Four: Identifying Plane Shapes in Solid Shapes Haunt

Good job for far ! Now you will be looking for  plane shapes hidden in class you are to find plane shape  that make up the solid shapes.

1 Students will be asked to identify the plane shapes in that makes up the solid shape

2. Students have to stick the shapes to make the solid shape the present to the class students will also discuss their solid shape with peers.

Evaluation

Students would be evaluated individually and in groups. They would be asked to draw a line to identify the plane shapes shown. Also allow my students to present to the class with their craft. Present on what plane shapes make solid and add entry to their journal.

Conclusion

Congratulations !  You learned about topics under geometry and extended your knowledge through critical thinking. Now you are ready for the next web quest on geometry. Those who are already familiar with web quest already understand the value of these individual and and group activities. The challenge is spreading as educators to develop web quest to capture our students mind in a fun and interactive way. I will encourage all educators to accept this challenge to enhance you and the way to deliver concepts to your students.

Teacher Page

This web quest was designed to meet the need of students in standard three Geometry lesson on Solid and Plane shapes. Under the Trinidad and Tobago curriculum students are require to develop and explore solid and plane shapes, investigate properties explore the relationship between the shapes and to solve problems involving these shapes.

This session is intended to deliver concepts in a fun interactive way. Most of the work will be group because I believe my students learn from each other. Knowledgeable eyes can challenge and enhance the concepts, while new eyes can provide insight.
