Introduction
The computer can only work if it has information in its memory. In this WebQuest you will learn the essentials of computer memory. The WebQuest will introduce you to the different types of memory that are found in a computer system. You will also be introduced to the unit of computer memory, and the overall function of memory in a computer system.
Task
1. Your task will be to define computer memory and determine the role it plays in the function of a computer
2. You will be also be required to describe the unit that is used to measure memory and create a computer memory unit conversion table.
3. Based on the knowledge acquired you will be required to determine how the computer manages to boot up since with an empty RAM chip at startup.
4You will be required to create a simple memory game online.

| Definition of memory. | Clear definition of memory. | Clear definition with examples. | Clear definition highlighting examples and functions | |
| Unit of Memory | Only, bit and byte is mentioned | Bit, and the amount of bits that makes a byte. | Bit, and the amount of bits that makes a byte and reference to the use of appropriate units; eg. the use of GB for hard drive, MB for floppy disk etc. | |
| Function of Memory | Only one function is outlined | Two functions clearly outlined | At least three functions provided | |
| Conversion Chart | Table accurately represents the basic units (bits and byte) | Table accurately and clearly represent conversion between three units | Table accurately and clearly represent conversion between at least four units (byte, Kb, MB, GB, TB etc) |
Conclusion
Congratulations! You have successfully completed your unit on computer memory. You have achieved the following objectives:
Clearly define memory
Describe the functions of computer memory
Describe and use the unit of computer memory to create a conversion table
Explain how the computer operates with and without volatile memory.
