Introduction

After World War I, President Wilson warned Americans that the world may be in danger of another war.  As the 1930s came to a close, Europe was in trouble.  A more damaging war was in the future.

Task

Your task is to complete the handout I have provided in class, using the links provided under Process and reading or watching the material.  You are going to learn about key players in the war and battles that occurred during WWII.

European Theatre - The Battles

(1939-42)

1. Invasion of Poland   - Who invaded Poland, why and were they successful?

2. Battle of Britain - Who was involved in the Battle of Britain, why and were they successful?

3. Lend-Lease Act  - What was the Lend-Lease Act?  Explain!

4. Atlantic Charter (first paragraph) - Who was involved in the charter, what was it, and what was it's purpose?

5. Pearl Harbor (first paragraph) - Who bombed whom and what is significant about this?

6. Battle of Stalingrad - Who fought in the battle, where was it and why is it significant?

(1943-45)

7. Operation Overlord  What was Operation Overlord?  Which countries were involved in this operation? Where did it take place? Was there a clear "winner" for this operation?

7a.(D-Day) - What does the D mean in D-Day, how many men were involved in the D-Day landing.  

8. Liberation of France - Who helped liberate France?

9. Battle of the Bulge - Why was it called the "Battle of the Bulge?' Where did it take place and who fought?  Who won the battle?
