Water is a precious resource and how we get it, use it and manage it is an important factor in sustainability.
What approaches can be taken to manage Australia's water resources more effectively?
Due 30th May.
60 Marks. Part A (35) & Part B (25).
Task
How do human as well as natural processes influence the distribution and availability of water as a resource? What approaches can be taken to better manage water resources and reduce water scarcity?
Make a infographic or pictochart on your findings. Include pictures, diagrams, graphs, charts as well as other information.
Make a 2 minute video to persuade your classmates to better manage their family's water usage.
Process
Part A. (35 marks)
Find out about water usage in your own home.
1. Identify all of the uses of water in your home and present in a table. Use SPICESS wherever appropriate.
2. Explain where your water comes from. Think about this is relation to your suburb, your city and your state.
3. Outline how water efficient your home is. Use the water efficiency online guide.
4. Identify areas of water wastage in your home and explain why its important to recognise where and how your family wastes water.
5. List the regulations that exist on water usage in Sydney. Clarify why these regulations exist.
6. Examine the importance of sustainable water management in a country like Australia.
7. Interpret the water footprint of your family home. Use the online tool to calculate your water footprint first.
8. After you have researched the above make recommendations on; reasons why your home should reduce water usage and ways to make it possible
Part B. (25 Marks)
Make a 2 minute presentation to the class encouraging them to reduce their water usage. Make a documentary video on why we should all aim to lower our own water footprint. Pitch to your classmates using Spark video approach why its important to have sustainable water management. Think of this in relation to your local community in Australia.
Evaluation
To evaluate your report you will be assessed on the following outcomes;
1. How well you explain the interactions and connections between people, places and the environment.
2. Discuss the management of places and the environment for their sustainability and how this differs within Australia.
3. The use of geographical information and the presenting of that information as well as tools of enquiry.
4. The different strategies used to present the information and communicating it in an interesting and unique way.
5. Use this Canadian Youtube video as an example of how this type of information can be presented or to help you research different topics about water savings.

Importance of water regulations and its reasons, importance of water management practices
Interpretation of a water footprint, reasons for reducing water wastage and ways to reduce that wastage
All presented in a cohesive, logical and well thought out report withing the Infochart.
Part B (25 Marks)
2 minutes in a video format that is interpreting water wastage and its influences on water scarcity. Providing a persuasive argument to your classmates why they should better manage their water footprint and decrease their water usage.
