Introduction
In this WebQuest, we will be looking at the Elementary education in India and think about how it is different from Education in the United States.
Task
By the end of this Web Quest, you will:
- Research the Education System in India by exploring websites provided.
- Create a Tri-Fold Brochure using a filer folder to showcase your research on similarities and differences between school in the United States and India.
- The Tri-Fold Brochure will contain information that each group has found and will be presented to the class after the week is over. Students will be investigating schools in India (on a boat, on a mountain, etc) and schools in the United States. They will compare and contrast on each side of the brochure.
Process
Before we begin our research on India and the United States, watch these three videos to get an idea of the different types of education systems in India. These videos will open your mind to the similarities and differences within each video that will guide your research.
Video 1: Going to School in a Mud Desert
Video 2: Going to School on a Mountaintop
Video 3: Going to School on a Boat
After watching each video, what are three main differences you see, besides that one school is on a boat, on a mountain, or in a mud desert, that are within each video? What are the similarities and differences you see within these videos and schools in the United States?
Now that our minds have been moving, let's begin our research! Listed below are websites that you and your group must use to conduct your research. Google and Wikipedia are not allowed for this assignment.
Websites to Visit for Research:
1. India Today- Click on the Education Tab and explore the articles.
2. The Education System in India
3. The Difference Between Indian and US Education System
4. Facts & Statistics about Education in India
5. Education in India- Youtube Video
As you and your group members are doing research, make sure each member is taking notes to keep track of the information you are finding. This way, you can all come together to share information for your project. Make sure to check your rubric for the number of similarities and differences you need for your project!
Step 1: Meet with your group to compare each team members research. Choose at least five similarities and differences that you will illustrate and write about on your brochure.
Step 2: Get materials. Construction Paper, Markers, etc.
Step 3: Now decide which team member will complete one of the following jobs.
- Author - This student will be writing out all of the information they have decided to use on their brochure. They will write the rough draft and the final draft, maybe because they have the best handwriting or do not mind writing a lot.
- Illustrator - This students will be drawing and coloring any pictures they wish to put on the brouchure. They should be hand drawn but if there is a picture from the Internet that is black and white, they must color it. 1 printed image only.
- Editor - This student will be the "leader" of the group. They will be double checking spelling and grammar. They will be making sure the illustrations are clean and make sense to the project. They will also be making sure the brouchure is organized.
Each person will only do one of the following jobs this project, to make sure the work is distributed fairly.
Step 4: Use white computer paper to make a rough draft of your project, this way the editor will be double checking everyone's work before the final project. This means that the pictures may be simple, in black and white, and will not be graded. Once your group believes the project is perfected, make your final brochure on the materials you gathered. Make sure to reread your rubric while creating your rough draft!!
Step 5: Practice your presentation with your group, making sure each person has a speaking role. We will be presenting to your families on May 11th.
