Introduction
Biomechanics-
‘The science of physics applied to human movement’
‘The study of the structure and function of the human body using methods of mechanics’
‘The investigation of the internal and external forces which act on the human body and the effects produced by these forces’
Task
By the end of this unit you will be able to:
- Students will know how the body applies effective force
- Identify differences between bones, muscles and joints
- Understand the function of bones, muscles and joints
- Define biomechanics and the link to sport
- Understand the role of base of support, and centre of gravity
- Describe action and reaction forces
- Examine newton’s laws of motion in relation to sport
- Describe force summation and its contribution to performance
