Human Rights Violations

Task

7 decades have already gone after the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was drafted. Unfortunately it is still more a dream than reality. Violations exist everywhere around the world. Many people are not aware of how citizens of different countries are tortured or abused, face unfair trials and are restricted in their freedom of expression.Women and children in particular are marginalized in numerous ways, the press is not free in many countries, and dissenters are silenced, too often permanently. While some gains have been made in seven decades, human rights violations still plague our world today. Students will learn about Human Rights and work towards a presentation in which they will describe a specific Human Rights Violation in a problem-solution format

Task

To create awareness of such abuse, divided in groups of 4 classmates, you are going to produce a digital presentation about specific cases of violation to Human rights, outlining the courses of action that people should take to fight against such abuses.  Specifically, you will be working to answer the following questions:

1-Where in the world is the situation taking place?

2- Could cultural aspects be responsible for this human activity?

3-Whose responsibility is it to combat human rights violations?

4- Find the names of three human rights organizations.  Then, write an original, one sentence summary of their mission.

5-What actions should global citizens, governments, ONGs and the United Nations take to put an end to such abuse around the world?

Process

Process

Do some research from the following websites to find an example of a situation in which human rights are currently being violated. After each of the websites are searched, discuss the findings within your group, and decide on the best answers to each of the questions.

Steps:

1-Write a narrative description of this situation: Include:

*What the problem is (describe the situation)

* What specific human rights are being violated.

*Where it is happening.

*Who are affected.

*If there is anybody trying to help, an NGO, an international body or a group of independent people.

*What they are doing to help.

* How you could help as a global citizen- Explain some ideas

2-Also, create or copy pictures, charts, or maps to accompany this story.  For example, you could include photographs of victims of this violation of human rights, charts listing statistics of how many people have suffered from this violation of human rights, and/or maps of the region in the world where this violation of human rights is taking place.

Evaluation

The production process will be evaluated, that is, the work the members of each group carry out along the stages of this project towards the final product.

Dedication and commitment will also be considered along the process.

The final results will be evaluated at the time of socialization and presentation  of the final digital production.

Conclusion

Conclude by stating what global challenges ONGs and other organisms,as well as global citizens,  face in our attempt to put an end to Human rights violations.
