Importance of sports!

Introduction

We all know how important sports are, but can you say why? Try it with this activity!

So now you are a researcher and journalist trying to highlight in the newspaper the importance that sports have in our society. You are actually pretty shocked about the rate of child obesity and you want to make everyone aware of this problem. You will have to do your best to have your article pusblished. Good luck!

Task

You will have to write an article of about 300 words (approx.) about the importance of sports in our society. If you lack of creativity, find below a few tips or suggestions for your writing:

  • Rates of child obesity.
  • The great amount of fast food restaurants.
  • PE in school (more hours?)
  • Physical inactivity.
  • Long working-shifts.

Process

Collect information and summarize your ideas in an article exposing the importance of sports in our society and our current lifestyle.

Write individually a Word document of about 300 words. During the last session, you will to read it out loud and the Lead Editor from the newspaper will decide which ones will be published. Therefore, you should also practice your reading skills.

 

SESSION 1

Before starting your article, why don't you try to answer some of this questions? This might help you think about the issue.

  1. Do you practice any sports? If yes, how often?
  2. How often do you think we should practice sports?
  3. Do you follow a healthy lifestyle?
  4. Do you care about what you eat?
  5. How often do you eat junk food?

Try to summarize and reflect on the ideas that came up from the previous questions. Do you need any more help?

The Lead Editor from the newspaper (the teacher) along with his/her team, will decide which articles will be published. There are no limits regarding the number of articles that will be published. The more, the better ;-)
