Introduction
Have you ever wondered what attracts people to Arkansas? What does it have to offer? What's so great about it? Well, you are about to find out for us. Imagine you're a reporter. You have been assigned to travel through Arkansas and find out what really DOES attract visitors. You must explore the history of the state and what it has to offer, and then report back to make a brochure about your findings.
Task
I have asked you to develop a brochure based on your findings of Arkansas from the websites I have provided. After completion, the brochure will be presented to the class. Please gather information regarding the state's geographical locations, history, major cities and regions, fun facts, and it's impact or importance to the U.S. From creation of this brochure, you will be helping visitors get the inside scoop on "The Natural State". You will be in charge of designing the cover of your brochure, 4 "pages" of information/facts/history, and a "trademark" that goes on the back of your brochure.
Process
Step 1: Create a cover for your brochure. You may print pictures, draw pictures, use diagrams, use graphs, word art, etc. BE CREATIVE. Make sure the cover is eye-catching and organized. It has to do with the state of Arkansas.
Step 2: Use https://www.history.com/topics/us-states/arkansas to include the history of Arkansas in your brochure. You must include: the date of statehood, the capital, the population, the state bird, and a brief description (5-6 sentences) on the history of Arkansas. Include 2 pictures.
Step 3: Find 3 upcoming events in 3 different cities from https://www.arkansas.com/ to list in your brochure and give a 3-5 sentence description/history on the event. Be sure to recommend at least one place to eat in the city the event is happening.
Step 4: From http://exploresouthernhistory.com/Arkansas1.html pick your favorite historic site/ point of interest and write a 5-7 sentence paragraph about the it. Be sure to include pictures and the best facts to draw in people to visit the place you recommended (this is a brochure, you have to be persuasive).
Step 5: Use http://www.stateparks.com/arkansas_parks_and_recreation_destinations.html to research about the parks of Arkansas. Find your favorite parks to include in your brochure (must have at least 2, but no more than 4). Be sure to include a 3-5 sentence summary about the park and a picture to represent each park you have included.
Step 6: For the back of your brochure, be sure to come up with a trademark design for your publishing company to have represented.
Evaluation
75% of your grade will come from the compiled content of your brochure. Did you have all the necessary inclusions in your brochure? Was it persuasive enough for me to visit or was it just informational? (there is a difference)?
15% of your grade will be the overall appearance of your brochure. Does the brochure include picture? Is the brochure organized in a neat way? Is the brochure appealing to the eye?
10% of your grade will be the presentation of your brochure. Did you present the brochure?
If you answered "yes" to all the questions I asked, you will make a 100%!
Conclusion
Congratulations!! You have completed the web quest brochure and have a bit more knowledge about
Arkansas! I can't wait to see your presentations and view your brochures!
