The goal of this WebQuest is intended for your students to explore different habitats and the animals that live in them. The students will have the opportunity to learn and research about different habitats then match up animals to those habitats.
This WebQuest is created for students in 3rd grade to correspond with the Science content standards. The focus of the WebQuest is to teach 3rd grade students about habitats. Although this WebQuest is intended mainly for students in 3rd grade, students of any grade level may use it as a resource on animal habitats.
The teacher will guide students through the WebQuest and assist students when they need help.
Once the students learn about the animal habitats, you will guide them through the task.
Step 1. Give each student a different habitat template, scissors, a paper bag, scrap paper, some crayons and a glue stick.
Step 2. Ask students to color and cut out their habitat and glue it to the outside of their paper bag.
Step 3. Instruct students to stuff the bags with scrap paper until the bags stand up without support. Help students fold the tops of their bags before you staple them closed.
Step 4. When the bags are finished, direct students’ attention to you as you hold up a animal. Have students identify what habitat this animal lives in. Repeat with the other animals.
Step 5. Ask students to raise their hands as they identify animals who live in the habitat they have.
Step 6. Give the students the the animal to put with their habitat.
- Once all animals have been matched to the correct habitat, place the paper bags and animals in a classroom center. Add some books about habitats for students to enjoy!
