Introduction
Technology has been part of our lives since we could remember. Yet, what was life like prior to it? If we were a famous composer or musician in history, what would our social media profiles look like? What would be on our "newsfeed"? Would we update our relationship status? What would our friends lists look like? Also, if we did not have social media, what are other ways to gain "followers" or attract an audience? Things have changed over the years, but fortunate for us, we are able to use the internet to obtain answers to our questions.
Task
Use the following links to identify one of the composers that you find interesting.
https://listverse.com/2009/12/17/top-15-greatest-composers-of-all-time/
(Although the order that the composers are listed in is subject to opinion (website creator), these are all important composers).
Once you choose, you will choose the social media or communication platform. This will be the basis of your web inquiry project.
Once the social media platform is chosen, each individual group member will research a specific topic pertaining to the composer. (Discussed more in the process tab).
Process
- To start with, we will break into 7 small groups (project based on a class of 28 students). This will be chosen by the "popsicle stick method".
- Once in groups of 4, the students will decide what topic that they want to address:
- Background and Personal Life
- Famous Works and Performances (Video and Media examples limited to about 3-5)
- Professional Life and Credentials(Profession and Education)
- Research Friends and Family (limit to at least 3 people)
- The group member #1is focusing on the: Background and Personal Life should use https://www.biography.com to gain information such as date of birth, information about the hometown (culture, etc) and any immediate family. (You will be working closely with Group Member #4 Research Friends and Family (limit to at least 3 people), so that they know who to include in the "friends" list of your composer.
- The group member #2 will record a list of all of the famous works and performances of your assigned composer. You may include scores, video and media examples, however no more than 5. Hint: if you find some fun facts about the songs that would be included as a "newsfeed"/status.
- The group member #3 elaborates on what other professional skills that the composers have. Note: composer is one that is implied, everything else can be examined. Also, include their level of education.
- The last group member #4 will focus on researching friends and family. They will be responsible to create small profile connections such as a profile for their wife and children or their best friend. Note: there were some composers that did have multiple wives, etc..let's keep this school appropriate and just include the main wife or if not applicable, just include the immediate family (mom, dad, etc).
- Collaborate as a team to create the social media profile for your specific composer. Then, decide who will present the profile, post on the newsfeed, and create the other relative's profiles (minimum of 2). The presentation should be through and follow the requirements set in the evaluation tab.
- Interview with Ms. Fowler, to talk about the collaboration of the group and how the preparation (research) and presentation went. The preparation interview will happen before you collaborate as a team and create the social media profile. The presentation interview will happen after you present your profile in front of the class.
Evaluation
These rubrics will apply to the individual and the group, however I will be "interviewing each group to see how the collaborating went (preparation and presentation).

Students' research contains extremely detailed notes, with exceptional organization (fluidity) |
|
|
Cooperation
|
Students had little to no contact with their group and failed to share ideas resulting in the end product being unorganized. |
Students worked well with group, but may not listen to other's opinions or ideas | Students worked well with group and listened carefully to group members. | Students worked extremely well together and contributed assistance and advice when necessary.
|
Individual Tasks
|

|
Group Presentation
|
Student had little to no role in the preparation or presentation of the content | Student worked to prepare the profile, but did not present information (read the information) | Student worked to prepare the profile, and did a good job at presenting | Student was one of the main group members that worked on the profile and did an exceptional job at presenting (notecards, etc)

Conclusion
After this project, you will not only know more about these musical geniuses. You will also know how important the accuracy of research is. Aside from the accurate information, you also see that what is posted on social media is open to the public, which is why I stated that we might not want to include too much about their personal life such as multiple wives or anything that is not school appropriate. I think that this should also apply to your personal profiles as well. Lastly, have fun and be creative! Notice: not everyone's presentation was the same because the composers were from different places and time periods.
Good job students! You all successfully created some nice profiles.
