Students will have only three days to visit historical sites and immerse themselves in the history of our nation's capitol. With only three days to have an opportunity to visit memorials and monuments dedicated to great American leaders, students will have to move quickly from site to site in order to take it all in! There are so many sites that will be beneficial for fifth grade students but it is impossible to do everything!! How can anyone choose what what they want to see and decide what they think is the most important??
Task
Given the knowledge that many of your classmates could, at this very moment be wandering around in Washington D.C. and not have an idea of where they should begin their sightseeing field trip with so much to see and do, there is only one thing for you to do:
You have been assigned an important task - creating a way to share the exciting things to see and do for 5th graders could on their trip to Washington D.C.
Your task is to create a flyer, brochure, newspaper, or slide show that will lead them to 6 must see sites in Washington D.C. Give them a brief background about the site, so that they know what to expect upon arrival. If you can include a map, that would be very helpful!
You may create your project digitally or with poster paper, etc. The more creative you are, the better your information will be for students. Try to make it appealing so students choose YOUR information project over the other choices. Use Pictures, words, links, maps, etc. to help guide students and to make your guidebook unique!!

Process - Research
Use the links below to research some of the main attractions in Washington, D.C. Take notes of what impresses you and any helpful hints students might need when visiting each site. Make an interesting top 10 list with why you think it is a "must see" on their trip. Use your top ten list and narrow it down to 6 choices for your information board. You may make your list from most to least important, least to most important, or you may organize it another way that you choose. Be specific about what is important about this location, what might be troublesome, and what they should expect from this visit.
