Do you know where rain, sleet, snow comes from?

Have you ever wondered where all the water goes when it rains?

How does the rain get into the clouds?

In this web quest, you are going to explore the Water Cycle, each part, and why it is important to the earth

You will find out the answers to those questions as you explore The Water Cycle

The Water Cycle describes the movement of water on, above, and below the surface of the Earth. In this video, you'll learn about different parts of the cycle, including evaporation, condensation, and precipitation. Precipitation is water that falls from the sky, such as snow, rain, sleet, and hail. You'll learn how water from precipitation adds to groundwater and creates runoff into our streams, lakes, and oceans. You'll find out why you should conserve water, an important natural resource.

First, we will help you understand how evaporation, condensation, and precipitation work and how it all comes together.

Next, we will explain why the water cycle is important and what we can do to take care of our water supply.

Last, you will need to answer the following questions: How does rain form? What are clouds made of? How does water get into the ocean?

By the end of this webQuest you will know everything you need to know about the water cycle and will have a different vision on how to care for the water that surrounds us.

Process

We are going to learn about the process of the Water Cycle! Each process will have a link you will click on to learn about that specific step! You will watch the short animation and learn about each step! Notes are optional but remember, there will be an evaluation in the end!

Task 1: Evaporation

In this task you will learn about evaporation and what happens!

Click on the "V for Vapor" sign and learn about evaporation!

Task 2: Condensation

Here you will learn about condensation and its part in the water cycle!

Click on the "C for Clouds" sign to learn about condensation!

Task 3: Precipitation

Now you will learn about RAIN!

Click on the "R for Rain" sign to learn about precipitation!

Task 4: Collection

Lastly, you will learn about collection and its part in the water cycle!

Click on the "W or Water Storage" sign to learn about collection!

Task 5: Why is the Water Cycle important?

On a piece of paper, write down why YOU think the Water Cycle is important for us and the Earth. When you are finished click on the first link to understand why it is really important!

On the same piece of paper, write down how you think we can conserve our water.

Think about the way you use water and how you can conserve water usage. When you are finished, click on the links below to learn how to conserve our water.

Evaluation

Since we now know just about everything we need to regarding The Water Cycle, we without a doubt should greatly understand its importance on Earth. Throughout this web quest we have provided step-by-step facts about The Water Cycle, its significance, even how to conserve it, but we haven't provided tips on HOW to keep our water clean. Remember that we humans are not the only benefactors of water. I recommend that we do absolutely everything in our power to keep it safe and clean, not only for us but for future generations, plants, animals, etc.

Here's a short clip on how we can take care of our water. Enjoy!
