Introduction
In this webquest students will explore community helpers. They will learn about the different job duties and responsibilities that different community helpers have. Students will create a poster showing what job they want to be when they grow up. They will need to include reasons why they think that job is the best as well as describe a typical day in the community helper's life.
Task
What will I be when I grow up?
Your task will be to investigate different helpers in the community to learn about how they help and what they do each day. Once we have investigated many helpers you will decide which one you want to be when you grow up. You will then create a poster showing which job you want to be and include details why you think this job is the best.
Process
Day 1
-Discus the word community and the term community helper.
-Create a list of community helpers the students would like to know more about.
Day 2 and 3
Watch the videos. Discuss the role of each helper and begin to make a class anchor chart for the community helpers.
Evaluation
What will you be when you grow up? Based on all of our research decide what you want to be when you grow up. Create a poster of the community helper you chose. Make sure to add lots of details in your picture, include what a day would look like for their helper, as well as why they think their helper is the best.
Conclusion
Congratulations!! You have learned a lot about a community and the people that help make up a community. You have even picked a very important job for the future. Way to go!!
