Task

How is each fad promoted/marketed?

Coconut water/oil: coconut water is a “trendy” product, it is advertised through photos on Instagram, Twitter and other media platforms.

stevia: this products is marked through the idea of being the “healthy sugar” and the health benefits.

Purple diet: this diet is marked through celebrity’s and people’s reviews on media outlets.

2. Find an example advertisement for one of the fads and insert into this worksheet

3. Explain why you think the promotion/marketing of these fads would be successful

Because these health fads are on many media platforms people see them and try and post them trying them. A lot of them are promoted by the public not the manufacturers. The more people see real people using the product the mor convincing it is for them to buy it.

4. Explain why you think the promotion/marketing of these fads would be unsuccessful

because the information given to the buyer is not 100% going to work so some will always be sceptical.

5. Which of the 3 fads you selected would you be most likely to try and WHY?

i would be must likely to try coconut water because it is advertised as being healthy aswell as tasting good.

6. Which of the 3 fads would you be least likely to try and WHY?

I am least likely to try the purple diet even though I am usually a fan of anything purple. Because purple foods generally do not taste very nice and I have heard of some bad side effects that this diet gives you.

7. What are the negative side effects for each?

coconut water/oil may lower your blood pressure, creates high levels of potassium in the blood and Cystic fibrosis can lower salt levels in the body.

If you have stevia you may feel nausea or have a feeling of fullness.

When trying the purple diet you miss out on other nutrients which other coloured foods give you.

• what you have learned from completing the various tasks

I have learned that people will do a lot for their looks. Even going so far as to hurt themselves in the hope of looking better or in danger their safety. I have also learned that there are many different fads and ideas that people have come up with to reach their ideal selves. However I have released not all fads are bad and some may help you when not taken to the extreme. Many people take it to far and usually experience side effects of the fads.

• how do companies get people to try various health fads

companies get people to try there fad/product by promising an ideal that it can probably never live up to. People who are insecure about a sertain part of themselves and then hear on the internet, tv ect that they are able to fix it, they are easy to convince in the hope it will do whaat it says. Celebrities who try these fads are often sponsored and payed to try the products, so they have no trouble trying the fad then posting it on Instagram for example.

• design a better strategy for good health outcomes that would work over a long term

these fads would work better if they were done in a less extreme hurtful way. If people did the fad longer but less extreme, i believe it would be healthier and work better. When people want instant results and are willing to get hurt for beauty this can almost always become a health risk, when it would hae worked better and been healthier if they had have had patience.
