Introduction
Over the past couple of years, events such as Red Bull's wings for life (supports Spinal Chord injuries), Color Run (has supported over 50 charities since 2010) and Spartan courses (supports those who are affected by domestic violence and youth homelessness) have popped up around the globe and even in our own backyards. These events are motivating people to become fit and healthy and also are supporting great causes throughout out the world. You have been tasked by a similar company called Rhino corp, it is up to your team of 4 to create the new big event and to decide if/ what charity the event will support
Task
You have been tasked by a company called Rhino corp, they are looking for the next biggest sporting/ fitness event. They want to start an event here on the Sunshine Coast as a trial, and have the potential for it to grow within Australia. The event must be fun, unique, and safe on the environment, they have also requested to find a suitable charity that they can support with a percentage of the profits going to them.
It is up to your team of 4 to research, apply, analyse, evaluate and create an event. You can use any resources that are available to you, you can use computers, laptops, if you want to phone interview other events you can, if I approve your questions.
*All information must be from a credible source*
Examples of other big events can be found below:

Process
Part 1-
Create a list of big events in Australia (i.e. Sunshine Coast Marathon, Gold Coast Marathon, Colour run, Coolangatta Gold, Spartan race etc.) this will start your research folio, during this task you will keep an online research folio and continually add information to it.
In the list, state what the name of the event is, where is it located, what are the main feature of this event, how many people does it attract, if there is a charity attached to the event which organisation is it and how much is the entry fee. Make sure whoever did the research of each events, their name is on it.
Example: Sunshine Coast Marathon
Located: Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia- Approximately 1 hour north of Brisbane
Main feature: Marathon race distance run, but includes half marathon, 10km, 5km and 2km runs
Entries: Just under 6000 entries
Charities attached: Ronald McDonald House Charity SEQ and Westpac Foundation
Entry Fee: Marathon between $110-130, Half Marathon $85-105, 10km $45-65, 5km $35-50, 2km$20-30
Retrieved from: https://www.sunshinecoastmarathon.com.au
* To meet an 'A' Standard, it is required that as a group you have at least 8 events, 2 per person in your group
Part 2-
For this section, you will need to research 4 different areas of the Sunshine Coast, with photographs of proposed events sites. Write a 200 word pros and cons of this site and include ideas such as is there sufficient parking, or will you need to bus people in.
Part 3-
Make a selection on your 4 areas of which 1 you will use as an event site, restate the pro's and con's, and how your team are going to make sure its environmentally friendly. Make sure whoever does the research of each area, their names are on it.
*No word count if it’s justified and succinct *
Part 4-
Research 8 charities of your choice, state what the charity are, when were they created, what area do they work in, are they a global charity or just in Australia and why you think they would be a good choice for our event to support.
Brief Example: Ronald McDonald House Charity
What area do they work in: It is an independent charity that helps families of seriously ill children. They provided a ‘home away from home’ for families of seriously ill children being treated at nearby hospitals.
Year created: 1981
National or international Charity: Ronald McDonald House Charity is a global Charity
Reason why we should support it: We should support RMHC because........

Part 5-
Design phase, part 5 is where you start to create the event, the event needs to be fun, unique and safe on the environment. On an A3 piece of paper that will be supplied, it must contain a legend and scale, and a detailed drawing of your event site which includes, start/finish areas, registration, car parking/bus shuttles, food, toilets, water stations, security and first aid.
Also a 250-500 word explanation on how the event will be environmentally friendly is needed.
Part 6
The final stage will be to create and poll your cohort using survey monkey, using questions such as would you participate in this event, how much would you expect to pay, etc. By doing this it will help you provide feedback.
Finally, you will be required to provide 500-750-word feedback/self-evaluations on how you worked together as a group, how you worked individually, what can be improved on also incorporate results from the survey monkey poll this will complete your research folio.

Conclusion
It is expected that in the parts 1,2 and 3 each student completes an equal amount of research topics ( part 1 is 2, and part 2 and 3 is 1 each) as this will be apart of an individual assessment.
3 weeks from when the task is given to students, it will be due.
Now it's time to work as a team and develop the next big thing!!

Rationale:
This WebQuest was created for a year 8 Health and Physical Education Class. It is created to be an assessment task for students to complete over a 3-week period. The 3 main focus's that have been derived from the Australian Curriculum standard for HPE:
"Plan and use health practices, behaviours and resources to enhance health, safety and wellbeing of their communities (ACPPS077 - Scootle ) "
"Investigate the benefits to individuals and communities of valuing diversity and promoting inclusivity (ACPPS079 - Scootle )"
"Practise and apply personal and social skills when undertaking a range of roles in physical activities (ACPMP086 - Scootle )"
Over this assessment task students will develop an event to benefit the community not only in a physical way but also in a funding way to charities. Students have been asked to research other event that use health practices to enhance health and wellbeing of their community. They will investigate the benefits of the event they develop to the individuals and communities by promoting inclusivity to all. A finally by getting students to work in a group environment, and work as a team they are practising and developing personal and social skill in an healthy and controlled environment.
Throughout the course of the assessment task, higher order thinking skills are being used, Blooms Taxonomy’s 6 main categories are being used alongside the use of ICT’s. Students are being asked to remember and recall facts that they have previously learnt and then further research these facts and statements to create lists. They then are asked to understand and explain the facts they have learnt especially in part 4 where it asks them what the charity is and then to state why they think the charity should be involved. Part 5 students will apply analyse and create the event they have been researching which creates higher order thinking and finally they will evaluate themselves at the end of their task to see how they went, what they can improve on and how to move forward. By incorporating Blooms Taxonomy in through 6 parts of the assessment it has given students the opportunity to show their higher order thinking skills. (Armstrong)
Within this assessment task it uses ACARA ICT Capability Learning Continuum focusing more on a level 5 standard which is required by student in year 8. Students use their ‘Locate generate and access data and information skills’ throughout this assessment piece. Students are also asked to ‘select and evaluate data and information’ from credible sources only, which we have previously covered in class. To be successful in this task students will need to ‘generate ideas and plans and process’ to be able achieve their result in developing an event that is fun, unique and environmentally friendly.
By asking students to research and develop a plan to create an event it has given them the chance for inquiry based learning, which can help students be motivated, allows them to express their own thoughts and opinions, it makes their research meaningful and fun as it’s something they want to research. (Australian Curriculum)
Throughout this WebQuest it is evident that Higher Order thinking skills have been enquired, ACARA ICT Capability Learning Continuum and Inquiry based learning has been used as stated in the examples above.
