Introduction

Hello learner! Have you ever wondered about chemical compounds? How about saturation vs concentration? Pure substances and mixtures? Well, by the end of this webquest you should know about all of these things and more!

Task

In this webquest you will be doing 3 different activities all related to pure substances and mixtures!

This webquest will guide you through the learning process in a fun and easy way, as well as that you will be given several websites to help you complete your research.

Now, on to your activities!

Process

Task One

For your first activity you will be learning about Solutes and solvents. You will learn about the differences between solutes and solvents and how they affect each other. You will also learn about solubility and the principles of the particle theory.

After completing research on these 3 topics, you will create a small project in a book-like layout about what you have learned. The book does not have to be large. However, there must be sufficient enough information to teach these topics to another individual who knows nothing about them. Therefore, make sure all of your information is organised and applicable to the topic.

Topics: solutes vs solvents, solubility and the principles of the Particle Theory

The websites listed below will help you learn basic information about these topics. However, it is expected that you do some personal research as well. By the end of this task, you can proudly call yourself an author!

Task two

For your second activity you will be learning about saturation and concentration. You will explore both saturation and concentration and figure out how they are different. After you have learned about the differences you can conduct an experiment showing saturation and concentration.

Research

The research for this portion will be limited and very hands on. But at all times you should go beyond the websites we give to explore and research on your own. Please visit these few websites bellow and learn about saturation and concentration. Read the sections titled “Saturation” and “Concentration”.

Experiment

For this experiment please visit the link below and follow the instructions for the experiment

Results

Once you have done this experiment please write down what you learned, saw, knew. When you finish writing everything down draw a diagram of what you saw in the cup, this may include liquid, other solids, etc. Be sure to label diagram.

Task three

for your third activity you will be learning about the properties and differences of pure substances, mixtures and solutions. You will also learn about the separation of mixtures and solutions

On these websites bellow you will find the information you need in order to learn about this topic. Once you have read through These websites and learned about this topic we will be asking you to create a website of your own showing and sharing what you have learned. On this website you will need to include information about properties AND differences between pure substances, mixtures, and solutions. You should also include information about separating  mixtures and solutions into separate parts. Once you have created a website on the website maker of your choosing you can choose to publish it for all the world to see.
