Introduction
In this webquest, students will learn about Christmas customs and celebrations in different parts of Croatia. Over the years, Croats have adopted same new Christmas customs which they have than combined with the traditional ones only to get „the contemporary Christmas mish-mash“ that we all know today.
But which Croatian region created the most successful combination of traditional and modern thus becoming the perfect Christmas destination?
Students will reveal it through this webquest.
Task
Students work in groups of three to find out about Christmas celebrations in different regions of Croatia – Zagreb, Slavonia, Istria and Dalmatia. They learn about:
– traditional and modern Christmas decorations,
– religious rituals in December
– traditional and modern Christmas food
– social events
Team members assume the role of travel agents and use their research to develop a presentation that will encourage travelers to visit the particular region during Christmas holidays. Presentation is carried out in the form of Power Point presentation.
Process
Students are assembled into four groups. Each group is assined one region which they have to research.
Group 1– Zagreb; Group 2 – Slavonia; Group 3 - Istria; Group 4 – Dalmatia
They cover the topics:

Now, that they have gathered all the neccessary information, each group may procede to second phase of the procedure – creating a Power-point presentation which best portraits their region. Students decide on their target group and do the best they can to „lure them in“.
Each group presents their region to randomly selected audience (other class of students). After that the audience is given a chance to vote for their favorites. A questionnaire is handed out to members of the audience.
Evaluation
CREATING A QUESTIONNAIRE:
Students will learn how to create a questionnaire to get specific information. They need to find out:
– which of the four topics covered in presenting each region's Christmas celebrations was the least useful
– which of the four topics is important to you when traveling to a place
– which region was presented with the most useful information
...and similar, until finally, audience is asked
– which of the four regions would you visit for Christmas holidays
With the data students have gathered, they will reach a decision on possible adjustements of their market research and presentation.
Conclusion
Besides learning about Christmas celebrations in different regions of Croatia, you will also learn how to conduct a survey and use the information for your future business decisions.
Thank you for participating!
