Your school has passed the KPREP with flying colors!! Your principal has decided to allow you to purchase accessories to make a new student lounge
Task
You just won the 6th grade LOTTERY--you passed the KPREP with flying colors!!! Since you all did such an excellent job, your principal has given you $2,500 to create your very own student lounge so you may relax, have a trendy place for team meetings, guest speakers, and special events here at school.
There are a few requirements for you to follow. The principal wants you to purchase the following items:
* 2 NEW COUCHES
* 1 AREA RUG (minimum 12 by 15)
* 1 TELEVISION (minimum 42-inch)
* 3 to 5 WALL PICTURES
* 2 COFFEE TABLES
* After you have met these requirements, you may spend the remaining money however you like!
Process
READ ALL STEPS BEFORE BEGINNING!
You will be working on a design team to develop a plan for the new student lounge. Remember, you have $2,500 to spend including tax and shipping. HOWEVER, YOU MUST SPEND AT LEAST $2,300! Each member of the team will have three roles: shopping consultant, accountant, and designer.
ACCOUNTANT:
Each of you will be an accountant and will be responsible for computing tax and shipping costs at the end. You will fill out the purchase order form. Remember that your tax and shipping will be included in your total expenditures. The tax in Kentucky is 6.0%. The total shipping cost for everything will be a flat rate of $100.00.
SHOPPING CONSULTANTS:
Each team member will be a "shopping consultant" and will have a part in the decision making process of what will be purchased. You may decide who researches the different items. Remember, you need to purchase the following items:
* 2 NEW COUCHES
* 1 AREA RUG (minimum 5 feet by 7 feet)
* 1 TELEVISION (minimum 42-inch)
* 3 to 5 WALL PICTURES
* 2 COFFEE TABLES
* After you have met these requirements, you may spend the remaining money however you like!

FINAL PRODUCT:
Now it's time to publish your choices. Make sure that you have not gone over your budget of $2,500, and that your total amount includes shipping and the sales tax.
You will hand in the following items:
*Your Completed Order Form
*Your Group's Design for the Student Lounge on Poster Board with Printed Pictures! Prices of objects must be documented on the board!
REMEMBER, YOU MUST SPEND BETWEEN $2,300 AND $2,500!!!

Your shopping is done, your computations are correct--especially finding your tax--, and your table is complete and neat! You have mastered the difficult task of finding tax (the percent of a number), and you understand what an important part of real life it really is!
