Writing a Friendly Letter

Introduction

Hello my friend! During this adventure, you will be learning how to write a friendly letter. Before we begin, think of how many letters you've seen in your life. Maybe you got some in the mail, watched your parents write them, and more! Do you know who in your community delivers letters? Think about what you know about letters and what they are used for.

Task

You have just started going to a brand new school, and you are starting to make new friends! Out of your new friends, you can pick one to write a friendly letter to about your favorite things to do. First, you will learn about the parts of a friendly letter. Then, you will write your very own letter to a friend of your choosing.

Process

First, you will need to click on the following links and watch the videos to learn about the different parts of a friendly letter. Please watch carefully so you can learn the important parts that make up a friendly letter.

Next, choose a new friend (you can make up one or use one of your current friends) to write a friendly letter to about your hobbies and what you like to do.

Now that you have chosen your new friend, use a clean piece of paper to write a rough draft of your friendly letter. You are then able to write your friend a letter about what you like to do. Be sure to include at least 7 sentences talking about yourself and your hobbies. You may want to also ask a question for your new friend to answer. If you have questions or forget the parts of a friendly letter, click on the links above to help you remember. Be sure to include a heading, greeting, body, closing, and signature. Once you have finished your rough draft, label the five parts of your friendly letter.

  1. Heading
  2. Greeting
  3. Body
  4. Closing
  5. Signature

Lastly, click on this link: Letter Generator to type your final draft of your letter. Be sure to include adjectives and be descriptive! After you have completed this letter, select the option to print the letter.
