1. NOTES (Take notes on a separate sheet of paper. Title it: -AR VERBS)

"AR verbs" – These are verbs that end in the  letters -AR.  Some common -AR verbs are hablar (to talk), bailar (to dance), trabajar (to work), and necesitar (to need)

"Conjugate" – this is when we change the verb.  For an -ar verb, we will take off the -ar, and add different endings depending on the form.

In English this would be an example of verb conjugation:  I sing,  You sing  He sings, She sings, We sing, You all sing, and They sing.

In Spanish, a regular present tense conjugation would  look like this:

Yo canto   (I sing)                    Nosotros cantamos (We sing
Tú cantas (You informal sing)
Él canta (He sings) Ellos cantan (They masc sing)
Ella canta (She sings) Ellas cantan (They fem sing)
Usted canta (You formal sing) Ustedes cantan (You all sing)

Most of  the forms are different unlike in English where only two forms are different.

Endings for -ar verbs are as follows:

Singular Plural
(Yo) -o               (Nosotros) -amos
(Tú) -as
(Él) -a (Ellos) -an
(Ella) -a (Ellas) -an
(Usted) -a (Ustedes) -an

How to:

For an -ar verb that you want to conjugate, DROP the -ar, ADD the ending

So if I want to say, "I take notes" I am going to use the phrase "tomar apuntes". BUT, first I need to DROP the -ar and ADD the ending.

So, my phrase would be: "tomo apuntes" (I take notes)

Tú contestas=You answer

Él necesita=He needs

Nosotros enseñamos=We teach
