Exploring Extremadura

Introduction

         Wow!

How lucky! You have been chosen by your country to go and represent Extremadura overseas. You are going to have presentations in London, Cardiff, Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh and New York. As Extremeñans, you know how beautiful Extremadura is. However, this amazing location is not known to many people who come to Spain. Why is this? We’re not sure, but something we are sure of is that you are going to fix this! Your job will be to promote Extremadura under the following headings

  • History (buildings, heritage, historical monuments)
  • Nature (parks, animals, insects)
  • Gastronomy (traditional food, food festivals, typical products)
  • Traditions (Religious traditions, music/dances, special calendar dates, legends & sayings)

Your need to let tourists know, what things they need to see, when they need to see it, and why they need to see it.

Task

You will create a presentation in which you will talk about the wonderful qualities of Extremadura. Images will be the main characteristic of your presentation but your main objective is to engage the audience orally. Some key words may be displayed in your presentation. As Extremadura is your homeland, you need to speak from the heart, this is what tourists want. They don’t want information, they can get that on the internet, they want passion and pride. So let’s go!

As your presentation will deal with four main topics, I suggest that each person of the group investigates one of the topics. Remember, knowing your topic is not enough; you need to be able to connect your topic with your partner’s.

I suggest looking at the links together and deciding which link is relevant for each person

  • Look at the links I have given
  • Decide with which partner you will connect your material. Maybe Nature can connect to History, and then History with Food, and then Food with Traditions. This is just an example of connections, you can connect the headings in any way you want, but make sure the connection is relevant.
  • When you have established your main points, decide on how much time will be given to each heading. We don’t want an unbalanced presentation, so make sure everybody has more or less and equal amount of “presentation time”.

Remember! Your presentation may be done through powerpoint, prezi, or any other way that you see fit.
