This WebQuest has been adapted from the assessment task 'Our Place Australia - Inquiry Task' from teachstarter.com. It has been designed for students to follow the assessment using digital resources to complete their research and document their findings. To demonstrate learning, students will need to identify the natural and human features of the city they are visiting.
The Scenario
You have been hired by your teacher as a travel writer whilst you are on holidays in the capital city of one of Australia’s states and territories. During your trip you will keep a blog that explores the natural and human features of the city you are visiting, Identify Indigenous languages of the region,
Task
Task
Write a letter to a friend which tells of your (imaginary) experiences in a state or territory capital city of your choice. Include a detailed explanation of the natural and human-made features of the city you are visiting.
Process
Process- In your group, you will have been given a state of Australia to research.
1. Provide a map of the state/territory you are researching.
2. Provide an Indigenous languages map of the state/territory and list the native languages. Are any still spoken today? Where are they spoken?
3. Find out some information on the capital city and list 3 interesting facts you thought our readers should know.
4. List 5 animals and 5 plants that you will find in this state/territory.
5. What is the population of the state/territory? How many different cultures live here? How many other languages from around the world are spoken in this state/territory?
6. Have there been any historical events that have impacted this state/territory? When did this occur? Who was impacted? What happened?
7. What type of climate will you find here? Is it similar or different to where you live and how? What do you prefer?
8. Does this state/territory have any natural wonders of the world or any landmarks you would recommend to tourists visiting Australia? Why would you recommend them? What do you enjoy about them?
