Introduction
During the changing of seasons when Summer turns to Fall why do the leaves turn different colors and why does it only begin around October? Provide visuals and hands on objects to get the children involved with the conversation. Make the conversation about them and their interest allow the children to lead the project.
Task
Why do the leaves change colors before they fall down off the trees?
Process
Begin to observe specific trees and keep a running record of how long the leaves took to begin to change colors. Research the cycle that explains the life of a tree during the season changing.

Evaluation
Provide samples of trees and the leaves and calculate how long the leaves will stay that color after it falls off the tree.
Making a graph when calculating how long it takes for the leaves to begin changing that shows beginning to the end results and what trees you can find that will begin to change as soon as fall hit or even those trees that don't begin to change until the last days of fall.
Conclusion
In conclusion the children will have determined why the leaves on specific trees change colors in the month of October as the seasons change and discover how long the leaves last after they fall down from the tree.
