Introduction
Blizzards, Hurricanes, Hailstorms, Tornadoes, Thunderstorms, Heat Waves, Droughts and Floods! All of these catastrophic events are known as Weather Disasters!
Weather Disasters can also be known as Meteorological Disasters. Meteorological Disasters are events that are caused by extreme weather conditions, which can be violent, destructive and can affect the earth's atmosphere. Though Floods are also considered disasters, they fall into the Hydrological category, which is a destructive change in the earth's water.
For this project you will be put into groups to work together to learn more about these disastrous weather events and how they are created.
Now that you know a little about Weather Disasters, let's get started!
Task
Disasters and where to find them! Oh My!

For this project you will be building a team of 3-5 classmates, and you will all work together to evaluate weather conditions and what types of disasters they can cause.
The four teams will be:
-
Team Hurricane
-
Team Tornado
-
Team Drought
-
Team Flood
Each team will research information and facts about their team name weather condition (example, Team Hurricane will look up facts about hurricanes and Team Drought will look up facts about droughts), and answer the given questions for the assignment.
Once you have come up with answers, write them down to let others know what you have discovered!
Process
Getting through it all!
In this assignment you and your teammates will be discovering new things about your given weather condition and what type of disasters it can cause. Here are a few questions to look up and answer:
-
What causes this type of weather condition?
-
Where is it most commonly found happening?
-
What are some results caused by the weather condition making it a disaster?
Once your team has answered these three questions, relax, and know that this assignment will NOT turn into a disaster!
