Week 1 Teacher notes:
It is important to understand the background and ground work related to nursing theory. Having knowledge on where nursing theory comes from and who guides it is important when learning and studying nursing. Nursing theory is not only created by nurses, but other disciplines as well. In your text, you learned about three types of nursing theory. They are Grand Theory, Middle Range Theory, and Nursing Practice theories. Also, we used YouTube videos to share knowledge and information regarding Jean Watson, a nursing theorists who focuses on a caring model. Caring is an example of nursing theory. In this discussion we will focus on Dr. Jean Watson and her caring model and how it is applied to nursing practice. Please read the required text, watch the required videos and then participate in the group discussion and the development of a WebQuest.
Task #1:
For this weeks discussion in teams of 3 or more, discuss the type of theory Jean Watson Care Model is. Discuss with your team how may have experienced this type of theory being applied to your practice or past life experiences. Explain how you, as a student can apply this theory to your practice. Answer your questions as a group and write them down to be submitted at the end of the WebQuest. Here are a few questions to get you started and thinking:
How do you think the Care Model correlates to nursing practice?
What does Caring mean to you?
Task #2
Then with your group, find 2 nursing articles that supports Jean Watson Care Model. Describe the concepts used in the article. Explain how you can apply it to your nursing practice. At the end of this course, you and your team members will do a power point presentation on Jean Watson.
