Introduction

INTRODUCTION

Hello sixth graders!

The present web quest aims to foster the importance of the rainforests because they are the lungs of the cities and they keep the equilibrium of the populations to rainforest s in Costa Rica, mainly to Braulio Carrillo National Park Rainforest.

What are rainforests?

According to MEP’s new syllabus, Rainforest are tall, densely growing, broad- leaved ever-green trees in a tropical area with high annual rainfalls.  They recycle and clean water; protect against pollution and erosion, provide plants for food and medicine provide homes for many types of life forms.

Rainforests are quickly being cut down, mostly for wood to build houses and roads, as well as making space for cattle raising and farming.

It is time to learn how to go on an adventure trip to Braulio Carrillo National Park and explore this amazing rainforest.  Are you ready for the trip?

Task

Dear students you will work in groups, to make the different activities:

  1. Watch a video to get introduced on the topic.
  2. Make a Pictionary Book of animals, plants and natural places of the park.
  3. Make a short research about the touristic attracticions in Braulio Carrillo.
  4. Check the interactive test about Braulio Carrillo National Park.
  5. The collected information will be put in a portfolio and shared with the classmates.

Rainforest Answers:

1. It is located in the Central Volcanic Range.

2. This rainforest is tall, densely growing, broad- leaved ever-green trees in a tropical area with

high annual rainfalls. It has ferns, bromeliads, and a plant with big leaves called “poor’s man

Umbrella. It has exotic birds and many species of mammals among others.

 

3. The Ocelots, jaguar and pumas are some examples of mammals.

 

4. Because most tropical rainforest grows in warm and steamy environments, and they contain a

huge variety of plants. Also because they help to prevent soil erosion. Some of the most important trees in the world live in rainforests.

 

5. Many trees are being cut off for the need of agriculture and to obtain wood.

 

6. Telling others of the importance the represent for the ecosystem. Planting trees on lands where trees

    had been cut off.

Conclusion

After completing all the steps above, the students have learned more about the rainforests, mainly Braulio Carrillo National Park.  

Now students is aware of the importance of them as the greatest natural resource human have and of the importance of taking care of them because they represent the lungs of the earth and treasure of biodiversity.

It is the responsibility of human beings to  find ways of taking care of them, planting trees in lands where trees had been cut off.
