Introduction
Congratulations,
Your team has just been hired by a major company that makes dog food to find a musher that they can sponsor in the upcoming Iditarod race in Alaska.
The company will pay all of the musher's expenses if he or she promises to have their dogs eat only their dog food.
You will decide which musher would be best for the company to sponsor based on the following:
1) How well he/she takes care of their dogs.
Your boss does not want to support a musher who treats animals inhumanely.
2) The experience and averages of the musher
Once you have made a decision you are to make your recommendation to the class.
Task
Your team is to research the mushers participating in the Iditarod race on the Internet and decide which musher your company will sponsor.
Your goal is :
A. to find a musher who treats their dogs humanely and include that information in a persuasive letter.
B. to evaluate your musher's standings and progress in the Iditarod races over time to determine if he has the potential to win.
C. Propose a projected budget as to how much sponsoring a musher might cost your company.
D. Finally, you are to create a campaign slogan on a poster,
Process
Begin researching the mushers participating in the Iditarod race. Pay particular attention to how well they care for their dogs. Include that information along with the reason for your recommendation for sponsoring that musher in the Iditarod race. You may use the links below.
Next write a persuasive letter to the president of your company, your teacher , recommending that musher. Make sure you tell why you are recommending that musher and tell how he/she treats their dogs humanely because that is very important to your company. Use the links below to review how to write a persuasive letter.
Then you will propose a projected budget as to how much sponsoring a musher might cost your company. Figure out the number of dogs on the team, the cost of the dog food, and how much it would cost to feed that team of dogs for one year. Include this information in your letter.
Include in your letter the average veterinary costs for a dog for a year. Your company wants to sponsor healthy dogs and pay for their care. They also want to pay for the dog booties, jackets, and other gear to keep them warm during the race. Use these links to determine the cost for these items.
Finally, you are to create a campaign slogan on a poster, to advertise your company's dog food and the musher they are sponsoring in the Iditarod race. Don't forget to include facts and opinions about the musher, dogs, and cost.
