Introduction

EHS TECHNOLOGY WEBQUEST

 

What is a WebQuest?

 

A WebQuest is used to learn through various Web sources. Follow the instructions below to navigate the important technology components of your EHS classes. For you to be successful at EHS is is extremely important that you feel comfortable with the technology that your teachers use. Through this webquest you will learn or review the following:

  • How to access, register for, and navigate Turnitin

  • How to access, register for, and navigate Google Classroom

  • How to access and navigate Course Blogs

  • How to access and use proper etiquette in an Email

  • How to access and navigate Power School

  • How to access and navigate Google Drive

 

  • Be careful to follow the instructions closely as prizes will be awarded to those who complete the Webquest accurately and in a timely fashion. If you do not feel that technology is your strong suit you should take your time and ask questions as Mrs. Sotelo, Mr. Van Arsdale, and the Link Leaders will be walking around the classroom for help.

 

 

 

Task

Below is an agenda that will guide you through the technology webquest assignments. Visit the Process section of the webquest to get more in depth instructions you should require it.

 

1. Turnitin & Google Classroom

  • Create Account, Access Class, and Submit Assignment to the correct slots.

  • Raise your hand if you have questions as Mrs. Sotelo, Mr. Van Arsdale, and Link Crew will be around to help.

2. Course Blogs

  • Access and Navigate Course Blogs.

  • Raise your hand if you have questions as Mrs. Sotelo, Mr. Van Arsdale, and Link Crew will be around to help.

3. Email

  • Access, Title, Formulate and Sign

  • Raise your hand if you have questions as Mrs. Sotelo, Mr. Van Arsdale, and Link Crew will be around to help.

4. Power School

  • Access, Find Class Schedule, and Find Individual Assignment.

  • Raise your hand if you have questions as Mrs. Sotelo, Mr. Van Arsdale, and Link Crew will be around to help

 

5. Google Drive

  • Access Drive, Create and Share Folders & Docs, and Find Other Important Features.

  • Raise your hand if you have questions as Mrs. Sotelo, Mr. Van Arsdale, and Link Crew will be around to help.

In the next section you will find links and instructions for each task. The most important part of this WebQuest is that you leave with a strong understanding of each technology component. Take your time, ask questions, and complete each task.

Process

General Instructions

 

  • Use the links below for instructions and/or accessing technology components.

  • All tasks should be submitted to the proper slots. Teacher and Link Crew members will check for accuracy and completion.

  • Prizes will be awarded for successes throughout the webquest.

 

 

  • Last, screen shot:

    • The first screen on the inside of Mrs. Sotelo's “Syllabus” Tab

    • The current week's blog entry on Mr. Van Arsdale's blog (screen shot Monday and Wednesday's post date.

      1. You can find the different days of the week by clicking on the page numbers at the bottom of the screen.

    • The first screen on the inside of Mrs. Sotelo's “Resources” Tab

    • The first screen inside of Mr. Van Arsdale's Archived Post from December 18th, 2016.

    • Submit all 5 screenshots to the Google Classroom slot titled “Course Blogs List”.

  • Email

  • Power School

    • Instructions

1. Access Power School using the link below. Navigate Power School to find the different areas that apply to you and would be helpful in tracking your class grades and progress.

2. Last, find one of your classes and screen shot the class name.

3. Last, click on a posted assignment from one of your classes and screen shot the individual assignment screen.

4. Next, go inside to one of your classes and screen shot the assignment screen.

5. Submit all 3 screen shots to the Google Classroom slot titled “I Can Access Power School”.

 

  • Google Drive

    • Instructions

      • Access Google Drive by using the link below. Next, create a Google Doc and title it “Accessing Google Drive”. In the body of the Google Doc include the following: first, last name, and short paragraph responding to the Time Capsule Prompt. Last, submit your Doc to the Google Classroom slot titled “Time Capsule”.

    • Time Capsule Writing Prompt: You are going to write about items that would be important to include in a time capsule for the Freshman Class. These items can be representative of your age, current culture and/or high school experiences. Think about the people who might open it 200 years from now. What would you want them to know about your High School experience and student culture? Make a list of the items you will include in your time capsule and include rationale for each item. Finally, where would a good place be to you bury your time capsule and why?

  • Submit your response to the Google Classroom slot titled Time Capsule.

  • TII and Google Classroom

    • Sign into both TII and Google Classroom classes, find the assignments in the Process section of your webquest and complete them 1 by 1.

    • Submit the assignment to the correct slots.

    • You will be evaluated upon accuracy and completion by Mrs. Sotelo and Mr. Van Arsdale.

    • You may ask questions for help and utilize the links and resources provided in your webquest.

  • Course Blogs

    • Visit Mrs. Sotelo’s and Mr. Van Arsdale's Blogs.

    • Use the Process section of your webquest to screenshot the indicated areas of each blog.

    • Submit your screenshots to the correct slots.

    • You will be evaluated upon accuracy and completion by Mrs. Sotelo and Mr. Van Arsdale.

    • You may ask questions for help and utilize the links and resources provided in your webquest.

  • Email

    • Send an email that is headed, written and signed correctly.

    • Screen shot email and submit to the correct slot.

    • You will be evaluated upon accuracy and completion by Mrs. Sotelo and Mr. Van Arsdale.

    • You may ask questions for help and utilize the links and resources provided in your webquest.

  • Power School

    • Access your class schedule and screenshot it. Next, access 1 of your classes and screenshot it. Finally, click on a posted assignment and screenshot the grade screen that appears.

    • Submit all 3 screenshots to the correct slot.

    • You will be evaluated upon accuracy and completion by Mrs. Sotelo and Mr. Van Arsdale.

    • You may ask questions for help and utilize the links and resources provided in your webquest.

  • Google Drive

    • Access Google Drive. Create and share a folder with vanarsdalej@vailschooldistrict.org. Next, create a Google Doc and respond to the Time Capsule prompt. Convert the doc to a pdf and place it in the shared folder.  

    • Submit your Time Capsule prompt response to the slot titled “Time Capsule prompt”.

    • You will be evaluated upon accuracy and completion by Mrs. Sotelo and Mr. Van Arsdale.

    • You may ask questions for help and utilize the links and resources provided in your webquest.

Conclusion

It is extremely important that you are able to navigate the technology used in all of your classes. Typically students who struggle with the technology components that EHS teachers use will struggle academically as well. PLEASE see Mr. V, Mrs. Sotelo, other teachers you feel comfortable with and/or the tech office for help. We provide many safety nets to help our students be successful, but it is your responsibility to seek them out! In the next section are some resources that may help you to navigate technology used at EHS.
