My favorite city

We all have a favorite city! That dream place full of amazing sights, people and everything we enjoy.

My favorite city is Austin, located in Texas, United States. I love that place! What's your favorite city?

In this WebQuest, you are going to investigate about your favorite city and the one you were born in, answer questions and give an oral presentation. 

Are you ready? Here we go!

Your task is to prepare an oral presentation comparing your favorite city with the city you were born or live in and then, present it to the class.

You will use a website to create a presentation that includes the information you've gathered about the two places as well as images or short videos.

The information you will need to include is divided into different categories. Please, pay attention and include each of the following categories on your presentation:

• Factual information: location, size, population, climate and importance.
• Appearance of the city: streets, architectural styles, shops and monuments.
• Places of interest: parks and squares, beaches, rivers, museums and famous buildings.
• Inhabitants: characteristics, origins and habits.

First, you will need to mention the above facts/characteristics about your favorite city. Then, you will compare them with the ones of the other city you chose. Don't forget to mention the differences between the two places! 

Remember to tell us why you love your favorite city. Be original! Include the vocabulary you've learned in the unit and words that describe exactly what you want to express.  

Before starting with your research, answer these questions in your notebook:

1. Where were you born? Do you like that town/city? Why (not)?
2. Have you lived in more than one town/city? If yes, which one do you like the most? Why?
3. What's your favorite city in the world? Why do you like it so much? Have you ever visited it?

Go to the following websites and investigate about your two cities (your favorite city and the city you were born or live in). 

- To investigate about any city in the world, go to https://www.britannica.com/ and look up the name of your favorite city.

Britannica is a trustworthy site, that's why we are using it! But in order to have access to all the information on the website, you need to sign up for a free trial (which lasts seven days). This is a pretty easy step, don't worry. You only need to provide your email address and create a password and you're all set! Go ahead and start your research.

- To investigate about Bahía Blanca, go to https://www.welcomeargentina.com/bahiablanca/index_i.html   and https://www.britannica.com/place/Bahia-Blanca . 

You can also investigate about other cities of Argentina on both sites, so don't worry If you didn't choose Bahía Blanca. Just go to the search box of any of the sites mentioned above and type the name of the city you need.

After doing your research, complete the chart with the information you gathered from the websites.

 My favorite city in the world is Los Angeles, but I was born in NYC. LA has a population of __________________ . NYC is _____________ (large), its population is of _______________. Even though LA is a big city, too, it is ________________ (quiet) than NYC.

One of the reasons why I love LA is because of its climate, which is ________________. In contrast, in NYC the climate is ___________. The city is __________ (cold) than LA, and I hate cold! 

Another reason why I love LA is because of the places to visit. There you can go to ______________, _______________, _________________, ________________ and many other awesome places! New York also has beautiful places to visit, but the ____________ (cool) places are in LA. In New York, the streets are always full of people. You can't even walk! 

I think both cities are awesome but for me, LA is more _________________ (beautiful) than NYC.

NOW YOU'RE READY! Make a summary that includes all the information you collected. It will help you with your oral presentation. Keep in mind that you have to use comparatives and superlatives. The text should be similar to the one in the previous activity.

Make the summary using your own words. Avoid the use of structures and words you don't understand. Remember it should be simple but complete. You will have to hand it in.

Use Word or Google Docs to write it. If you need to look up words in the dictionary, go to: https://www.merriam-webster.com/ here you can also find the pronunciation of the words you don't know.

After receiving feedback on your summary, you can start working on you presentation. Go to www.prezi.com to make it. 

Finally, prepare to give your presentation.

IMPORTANT! Oral speech is different from written speech. It contains simpler structures and words, keep that in mind! As you will have to draw a contrast/comparison between the two places you chose, you will need to use transitional words. You will be evaluated according to the following:

• Participation in class when talking about the questions you answered in the "process" section.
• Appropriate use of the links provided in the "process" section.
• Use of the information you gathered in the making of the summary.
• Appropriate language and structures included in the summary.
• Giving an oral presentation using the website provided by your teacher and including the appropriate categories, language, structures and information. 

After completing all your work, you will be able to use the target structure and the vocabulary we learned in this unit to talk about a topic of your interest. You have learned more about your favorite city and Bahía Blanca and used the internet to get the information you needed.
