Good Morning Mrs. Davenports class,

Today we are going to use web quest for our Science lesson. How many of you "love" science. Has anyone ever wanted to be a scientist? What is a scientist? What does a scientist do? Today, you are going to become a scientist. I have a special project I need your help on. Are you up for the challenge?

Great!! Lets look at our task...

Task

You are now the scientist, You will use the design process to create a helmet for an egg. The key is not to have your egg crack. You stand on a chair to drop your egg at arms length.

Materials: cotton balls, construction paper, tape, tissue paper and a 2 cups.

How many of you already have an idea of what yours going to do?

Who thinks their helmet is going to work the first time?

Process

                                                                 THE DESIGN PROCESS

Here are your steps to be completed in this order:

First, You will brainstorm ideas for creating a helmet for an egg. Record  Your Question and Prediction on your record sheet.

Second, Make a plan (use your record sheet) then You will gather materials (allowed) everyone will be given the same materials.

Third, You will be given time to create your helmet with the materials given. (DO NOT TEST YET)

Fourth, Test your design with your classmates.

Last, Share what happened to your egg and record your observation, results and conclusion on the record sheet.

Ready,Set, Lets build.....

Great Job!! You are all scientist.

How many had an egg that did NOT crack? How many had their egg crack? What are some things you might do different if you could make your helmet again with the same materials? Who thought it was easy to keep an egg from cracking or breaking? Being a scientist is fun!!
