This lesson will seek to incorporate all branches of Social Studies. These are : History, Geography and Social Studies

Process
Get together in pairs.
Firstly, work together with your partner and view the map of the caribbean
Working with your pair, identify Aruba, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cayman Islands,The Gulf Of Mexico, North Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea
Today We will be keying in on the island Cuba. After watching this video, please recall at least three resources of Cuba.
Also Take a look back at the map of the Caribbean. Identify the grid address of Cuba in terms of longitude and latitude. Please feel free to revise the concept.

In 1895,José Martà led Cubans in a fight for independence from Spain.With aid from the United States,Cuba gained its freedom.After the war,U.S.Army forces remained in Cuba. Most Cubans wanted to rule themselves.In 1902,the U.S. Army withdrew from Cuba,but the Navy kept a large base there. For many years,dictators ruled Cuba.In the 1950s,Fidel Castro began a revolutionary movement.He became the head of the Cuban government in 1959. He promised that Cuba would have no more dictators.
Castro took power during the Cold War,when the United States and the Soviet Union struggled for worldwide power. The Soviet Union provided Cuba with weapons.The Soviet Union practiced Communism.Castro soon adopted Communist policies,too.The Cuban government took over many businesses that had been owned by United States companies.
The island is 1,250 km long and 191 km across its widest point.
The three blue stripes are the symbols of the original three provinces. The triangle is a masonic symbol, here signifying liberty, equality and fraternity. The red colour is the blood sacrifices by the Cuban patriots.
