King Arthur and his legend

Introduction

Welcome to the WebQuest of KING ARTHUR AND HIS LEGEND!

The purpose of this WebQuest is to investigate the places associated with Arthurian Britain legend, some of its strengths, and or objects Landmarks linked to the character, as Camelot, the Holy Grail, and The Round Table. Many of them have a curious legend behind you intend to investigate.

Task

You have to do a research about the places associated with the Arthurian legend.

The next activities at the process will serve as a thread to go filling the Arthurian map and finding the objects associated with the legend.

All the students have to answer in a Word document the tasks and send it by e-mail to the teacher.

Firstly, you should check these websites and this vocabulary:

  • A Legend is an unproved story handed down by tradition from earlier times and popularly accepted as historical.
  • Do you know there is a book about Le Morte d'Arthur wich tells the story of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table? Thomas Malory wrote this great story. Read more information about it here!
  • To go deeper into the legend, check the places where the legend was on the following website. Click on every place in the map to find out the explanation.

 

Process

Task One: Was King Arthur a real person? Join the hunt for the man behind the world's greatest legend. Watch this video to be able to situate the legend in the right chronological time:

The Search for King Arthur

According to the video that you have watched on youtube, where did the legend take place? And who was the writer?

Write the correct answer on the Word document and situate the legend in the chronological time.

Task two: Write the correct answers about Camelot, you can search information about it using this link: http://www.historic-uk.com/CultureUK/Camelot-Court-of-King-Arthur/

  • What is Camelot?
  • What happened there?

Task three: Look at the next picture. What do you see?

Now, click on the picture and read information about it to answer the following questions:

  • What is the origin of the Round Table?
  • What does its circular shape?
  • Who used the round table? and Why?
  • Have you ever had “round table” with your friends? Do you
    know the meaning of this expression? Think about and check
    your answer in the following website:

Task four: What Arthurian items appear in the legend? What do they mean?
Find out the answers in the following website: http://www.kingarthursknights.com/items/default.asp 

  • Are those Arthurian items similar to any Spanish symbolic items? Which ones?
  • What is the Holy Grail?
  • Is there any relation between “The Holy Grail” and Catholic religion? Why?
