How did we come to be?
What makes us America?
Your job as Research Historian it to uncover the past of the 13 American colonies. You will conduct research to explore and explain life in the colonies, e.g. types of government, education, economics, society, and geograpy. The infromation you gather will be used to help you to create a diorama, electronic brochure, or poster detailing life in a colony or colonial region.
For part one of the project you will need to complete the following:
- Graphic Organizer to organize notes from quest
- Completed COLORFUL and ACCURATE map of the 13 Colonies
- Idea of project you would like to complete : diorama, electronic brochure, or poster (list of supplies)
Process
Answer these questions for ALL 13 colonies. Use the websites provided. Use at least 5 of the websites provided. Feel free to watch the short videos found on History.com.
Types of Settlers/Society
Who settled and lived in these colonies?
How did they live?
(Types of homes, social life, social hierarchy)
Geography & Climate
Describe the different climates in the regions of the colonies.
List the regions and the colonies in that region.
How did climate influence population and trade (economics of the region)?
What were the major towns?
Economics
Describe the different economic activities that took place in the colony.
How did colonists make a living?
What was the labor force?
How did economic practices influence society? (e.g. development of a slave society)
Education
How were colonists edcuated?
Government
Who founded the colony?
Why was the colony founded? (e.g. religious freedom, to repay a debt, etc.)
What type of government did the colony practice? Did they have a constitution?

Conclusion
Whatever you cannot finish at school you must finish for homework. Remember the information gathered in your quest will assist you to do a great job with the rest of the project. The more you learn, the better you'll earn!
