Introduction

This just in, we have reports that a HUUGE storm is headed for South Texas! This isn't just any storm.

This is a category 5

Hurricanes are no laughing matter and can be very dangerous. 

You need to become the best Junior Meteorologist (Weather Person) around so you can learn about this storm and let the citizens of South Texas know if they need to hunker down in their homes or run for the hills! Click on the TASK tab to see what we need to research.


Task

Hello there Junior Meteorologist!

It is important to be able to save South Texas from this massive hurricane! Did you know that on average 10 hurricanes hit the United States in 1 year? Half of these hurricanes devastate Texas shorelines!

For this webquest your TASK is to answer these three questions.

1. What Is A Hurricane?

2. How Do They Occur?

3. Why Are Category 5 Hurricanes Dangerous?

After sucessfully answering these 3 questions you have the challenge of preparing your own Hurricane Survival Pack! In this pack you must create a list of the 5 most important things you need in case of a hurricane. Along with reasoning to why you need them!

You will learn how to answer these three questions and create your very own Hurricane Survival Pack through the PROCESS section.

Question One: What Is A Hurricane

Question Two: How Do They Occur?

Hurricanes are the most violent storms on Earth! They form near the equator over warm ocean waters. Using this website read more about how hurricanes form. Then calculate how strong a category 5 is using their chart! http://spaceplace.nasa.gov/hurricanes/en/

Question Three:Why Are Category 5 Hurricanes Dangerous?

As you know from calculating earlier a category 5 hurricane has a wind speed of at least 155 mph or higher. This can cause crazy damage!! Now that you understand what a hurricane is its time to build your very own Hurricane Survival Pack!                 

This website http://hurricanesafety.org/prepare/hurricane-safety-checklists/ will help you to identify just what you need. Make a list with the 5 things you think are the most important and give short sentence explanations as to why you chose them.
