Diego Rivera

Introduction

Diego Rivera was a renowned painter and muralist.  Before Diego became famous for painting Murals that reflected the lives of the people of Mexico or political current events Diego also had a good following for his Cubism paintings in Italy. 

As you research Diego Rivera’s life you will learn more about different types of paintings as well as the artist himself.  Good Luck. 

Task

As you research Diego Rivera’s artwork, select three paintings or murals that you would exhibit in your gallery.  Explain what you interpret from the painting and why you selected to show exhibit the piece.

Process

  1. During what time period was Diego Rivera born and how do you think that may have influences him as an artist?
  2. Diego worked on a mural in the United States, but was destroyed because it was deemed too controversial; He later recreated the mural in another country.  Where was the original mural painted and in what building?  What country and where can the recreated version be found today?
  3. Diego Rivera was married to what famous artist?
