Introduction

Hello there!

Today, you are going to show what you know thus far about the nonfiction genre.  

Task

What do I do?

You will complete a series of activities related to the nonficition genre that will show me what you understand about it.  I want you to rely on your notes as little as possible.  It will allow you to see what you really know and what you might need to work on.

You will place the answers on the sheet provided.

  • Define nonfiction
  • What are the subgenres of nonfiction (list as many as you can)

Text Structures

  • Name and define the five most common text structures
  • List 3-5 key words to identify each text structure
  • Explore this site http://tweentribune.com/category/tween78/ and find an article that you find intersting and determine the text structure.

Author's Purpose

  • Explain how an author's purpose determines a particular text structure(PreAP)

Main Idea and Supporting Details

For this activity, you will need to have 2 highlighters, or two markers of different colors. Write a paragraph describing anything of your choice. The main sentence should be in one color and the supporting details should be another color.
