Introduction
Welcome to the Canadian History Museum's Job Board!
You have been chosen to do a computer research job to learn more about Canada's First People and share it with other Canadians.
You will act as one of the following specialists on a research team:
Archaeologist:somone who studies how humans lived and changed through the materials and artifacts they left behind
Sociologist: someone who studies details about the ways people lived in small and large social groups
Scientist: someone who studies the kinds of materials people used to make tools and technology
Domestic Historian: someone who studies how people made their shelter, clothing and food to survive and thrive
Task
Your team wil create a presentation of facts you have found out about one group of Canada's First Peoples before contact with Europeans.
You will research how First Peoples made do with what they had at their fingertips to live well by using the natural resources they found in all regions of our vast country.
You will collect information from the web sources you are given.
You will create WORD documents that include typing and pictures that explain how people lived:
- How they hunted and gathered food
- How they made homes, tools and clothes
- How they educated children to grow up well
- How they made rules so they could live peacefully
Process
You will work in a group of 4 people.
There will be 7 groups (7 groups of 4 students = 28 students)
You will think about each of the 4 job titles and the 4 research topics.
You will decide who takes on which job title and which research topic.
You will work hard during work blocks to gather information, write it or type it, and create a presentation.
Presentations are to be done on large 3-sided presentation folders like Science Fair projects are done on.
Your project will be assessed and given a grade. All people in the group get the same grade, so you all have to work hard!
Evaluation
The evaluation scale, called a rubric, shows and tells what you need to do to get an A grade. The parts of your grade come from work habits, good research, neat and interesting presentation board, and oral presentation skills.
Grades range from D or incomplete to A.
D or incomplete for poor or no effort made to complete this project and presentation
C for good effort to complete this project and presentation
B for very good effort to complete this project and presentation
A for excellent effort to complete this project and presentation
WARNING!
Doing poor quality work or causing problems in your group will cause you to get a low grade for poor work habits.
It is important that you take this project seriously.
If you goof off, waste time, or don't do your share, your grade will suffer.
Conclusion
Have fun acting like Scientists, Archaeologists, Sociologists and Domestic Historians!
Read the resources and gather good information to add to your project.
Work well together, and don't argue or fight. You each have a job, and you all add to the final presentation.
Be proud of the work you do in Grade 4. It all goes toward how you are getting ready for Grade 5 and higher.
