Introduction
We all love having a lovable, furry friend around! However, we must understand that having a dog comes with a lot of responsibility. This also includes FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. Using your math operation skills, you will find out how much it will cost to feed your "VIRTUAL DOG" over the course of its lifetime. You will choose and compare two different types of dog foods and determine which dog food is best for you. Start by clicking on to "Task" tab.

Task
In this webquest, you will pick a breed of dog of your choice and calculate the cost to feed the dog over the course of its expected lifetime. You must research the specific type of dog's typical lifespan, how much food to feed it, and find two different types of dog foods to choose from. One type of food should be the most affordable option possible, and the other should be a more "healthy" option. Calculate the cost of both foods over the course of the dog's life expectancy. Find the difference between the total cost of both dog foods. Write a paragraph stating why you chose the dog food you did.
Click onto the "Process" tab to begin your first step! You will need to have scratch paper and a pencil handy!!

Process
1.) Review the following video on how to add, subtract, and multiply decimals.

2.) Choose a "Virtual Dog" that you will have to feed over the course of its life expectancy. Be sure to give you new canine friend a name! :) Use the link below to look at different breeds of dogs when you are choosing your new pet. Scroll down the page under the "Feeding" section to learn what kind of food, how many times a day, and how many cups overall your new dog will need.

3.) Click the following link to find the average age your dog will live. This will tell you give you the number of years you will need to feed your dog.

4.) Click on the link below to choose two different types of dog food to start calculating the cost of the dog food for the entire year. Once you have figured out the cost for one year, figure out the cost for the dog's entire lifetime. One type of dog food should be the most affordable option, and the other type of dog food should be a "healthy" option which normally may mean it is the more expensive option.

* When calculating, use your dog breed's recommended feeding amount.
* Use the following conversion as a guideline: 1lb of dog food = 4 cups of dog food
* Use 365 Days in a Year
* Use your dog's life expectancy (round to the nearest whole # if necessary)
5.) Once you have the total amount it will cost to feed your dog for its entire lifetime for both food options, find the difference between the two brands. Create a Google Doc on the Chromebook to submit your results.

***Your Google Doc should include:
- Your dog's name, breed & life expectancy (years)
- # of Feedings per day & # of cups per feeding
- How many cups of dog food necessary for one year? Entire Life?
- Names of Both Brands & Cost per Bag
- Cost to feed for entire lifetime of BOTH BRANDS
- Difference between brands for the cost of the entire lifetime
- Which brand would you choose for your furry friend? Explain why in a paragraph.
6.) Once your information is listed in your Google Doc, you will use the same information to create a Google Slides presentation. You must find a creative way to display your information. Please make it look visually appealing using appropriate and relevant clipart. You will present your Google Slides to your classmates!
