Let's Learn the Scientific Method

Introduction

Caution! Danger! These are all signs that indicate we need to be careful. Today you will prepare yourself for any harm or danger in the lab by protecting your anatomy. You will learn the Anatomy of Lab Safety!

Task

You will work in pairs to determine the important aspects of protecting yourself during the lab. You will find out how to protect your anatomy and what to do if your anatomy is affected from a lab. The final product of your investigation will be a poster board showing how you would protect each part of your anatomy and a song/rap/poem to share with others to inform them how to protect themselves in a lab.

Before you can begin the poster board and song/rap/poem, you must research how to protect your anatomy in a lab. Your search should include the following anatomy:

·         Head

·         Eyes

·         Nose

·         Mouth

·         Hands

·         Feet

·         Body Each member of the group will work together to gather information, create a poster that emphasizes each part of the anatomy and how to protect it, and create a song/rap/poem that will allow others to easily remember the safety information.

Process

Students will work together to gather information. Once the information has been gathered, now is the time to organize your ideas for your poster board and song/rap/poem. Decide how you want your poster to look. Make sure to focus on all parts of the anatomy that you have researched. Once you have decided on a lay out, now is the time to put your information on your poster board. Remember, creativity is always a plus! When writing your song/rap/poem, work together to include at least four parts of the anatomy. Use thinking maps to help organize your information.

Evaluation

Evaluation

Students will have their poster board evaluated using the following rubric. Songs/raps/poems will be evaluated using the following rubric. Students will also evaluate their group members using the following evaluation form.
