Enemy Pie

Introduction

We are going to be reading enemy pie in class. Before you read you will be making a prediction. Check the task and process tabs for directions. You may listen to the story at http://www.storylineonline.net/enemy-pie/. Once you are familiar with the story complete the rest of the tasks. 

Task

1. Make a prediction about what you think Enemy Pie will be like. Make a recipe card including ingredients and directions. See process tab for more directions and recipe card template. 

2. Listen to Enemy Pie on your own.

3. Make a Venn diagram comparing friends and enemies.

4. Answer comprehension questions in process tab. 

Process

Prediction 

The boy in the story is going to make Enemy Pie. What do you think are the ingredients for Enemy Pie? Why? Write your recipe for Enemy Pie and the directions to make it. After you have ingredients and directions create a picture of what the pie will look like. 

Must include at least 5 ingredients and 3 steps in directions. Explanation must be given on why you chose to include those things in your pie. 

Venn Diagram

-Create a Venn diagram comparing friends and enemies. Make sure to include 3 details in each section. If you're having trouble remembering how to complete a Venn diagram refer to our anchor chart. Venn Diagram sheets are in our writing section or you may create one on the computer.

Comprehension Questions

1. Why wasn’t it a perfect summer?

2. Why didn’t he like Jeremy Ross? Give specific reasons.

3. What did his dad suggest he use to get rid of his enemy?

4. What ingredients did he bring his dad for the Enemy Pie?

5. Why was he confused about the smell coming from the kitchen?

6. What must he do for the day in order for the Enemy Pie to work?

7. Why was he confused when he began to have fun with Jeremy?

8. Why did he have to go up into the tree house first?

9. Why was he having second thoughts about the Enemy Pie?

10. Why did he try to stop Jeremy from eating the Enemy Pie? Did it work? Why or why not?

Evaluation

Prediction

Ingredients- 5 points- one for each ingredient

Directions-3 points- one for each step

Explanation- 5 points- Clear explanation of why you choose ingredients and directions should be given. It should be written in complete sentences and be easy to understand.

Venn diagram

One point will be given for each detail on your Venn diagram for a total of 9 points. There should be 3 details in each section of the Venn diagram.

Comprehension Questions

Each question is worth 2 points for a total of 20 points. Questions should be answer correctly and written in complete sentences. 

Conclusion

Now that you are done reading the story and answer questions turn and talk with a partner about things you likes about the story and things your didn't like about it.
