Our environment is comprised of various resources that we use on a regular basis. Water is one such resource. We need to teach and practise good water conservation techniques to ensure that we have a readily available supply. Students should learn the various causes of water pollution as well as its effects on our environment. In addition, they should learn ways in which they can prevent water pollution because this knowledge can determine the sustainability of our water supply in the future.

What is water pollution?

Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater), very often by human activities. 

Water pollution occur when pollutants (particles, chemicals or substances that make water contaminated) are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies without enough treatment to get rid of harmful compounds.

Task

Students will be able to highlight the;

The causes of water pollution.

The different effects of water pollution.

Ways in which water pollution can be prevented.

  2. Now find a pair next to you.

  4. Tell your friend how water pollution affects the environment. Now let your friend tell you the effects of water pollution.
  5. Tell your friend what you will do to prevent water pollution. Now let your friend tell you how water pollution can be prevented.
  6. Share what you learnt with the class when called upon.

Conclusion

pollution occurs throughout the world due to humane. It affects human beings, animals, plants and other species. If we preserve our water sources our world will be a better place to live in.
