Introduction
Since the beginning of time humans have been curious, creating new things and adapting things to do a job, make something easier, or to work better. Our earliest entrepreneurs took fire and found loads of uses for it! Some products are created for a need, some for want, some to meet a purpose and some by accident.

Task
Your task is to research and examine the different reasons products are created. Find out where the idea first came from and then maybe how it was adapted.
Process
|
Who invented the potato chip? What is the story behind the creation of this food? |
|
Why did Arthur Fry invent the Post-it-Note? What was the specific problem that led him to the solution of his problem? Who invented the glue? |
|
Why did Earle Dickson invent Band-Aids? What did he cover the tape and gauze with in order to keep it sterile? What company did he work for? |
|
How old was Frank Epperson when he invented the popsicle? Was the invention planned or an accident? Who now owns the rights to the Popsicle? |
|
Take a look at some of the other inventions and their history. Tell us about one you find interesting. Who invented it, when was it first invented and how did it come about? http://inventors.about.com/od/astartinventions/a/FamousInvention.htm |
Evaluation
Once you have completed your webquest with sufficient detail, pair up with someone else and compare your responses. Are they same or different? Discuss this with your buddy and cross-check your information.

Conclusion
Write a reflection on what you noticed about how some products were invented. Can you categorise the different ways people have created new products. What are the main reasons for new product development? Also, reflect on what life would be like without some of the products explored.
